COST ACCOUNTING MANAGER

SUMMARY

This position provides financial and accounting support to executives and department heads by establishing goals and budgets, preparing financial records, delivers cost analyses and monthly budget reports, calculates profit margins, and recommends opportunities to minimize costs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Accounts for fixed and variable costs in relation to the overall direct cost of manufacturing processes

  • Prepares financial records, including financial statements, balance sheets, cash flow, cost analyses and monthly budget reports; reconciles accounts

  • Collects and analyzes operational cost data; constructs systems and processes to accumulate and monitor data

  • Determines and sets standard costs of manufactured goods; develops and analyzes cost standards; analyzes and reports cost-volume-profit analysis

  • Establishes costs of business processes such as administration, labor, shipping, maintenance, raw materials, etc.

  • Prepares audit reports; presents findings to management

  • Recommends changes to work processes and policies to reduce cost and maximize profit

  • Advises executives and upper management on appropriate costing based on financial data

  • Analyzes service departments’ cost structure; reports information to management

  • Supports finance department including for invoicing and capital expenditures

  • Reports asset utilization and audit results to management; recommends changes in operations and financial activities

  • Determines formulas and calculates fixed and variable costs for manufacturing

  • Assists with budget planning; prepares reports for multiple departments and companies

  • Reviews receipts and compare with actual charges to detect inaccuracies

  • Projects profit margins for upcoming quarters and analyzes trends of highs and lows

  • Prepares cost forecasts for monthly, quarterly, or annual operating schedules

  • Analyzes month-end and year-end reports; identifies and recommends cost-effective improvements

  • Communicates cost structures for individual companies to management; presents findings on opportunities for improvement

  • Supervises and develops accounting staff; handles performance reviews; coordinates activities; provides training and advancement opportunities as appropriate

  • Follows all Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); adheres to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) as required

  • Enters data in appropriate ERP system/s; verifies data

  • Assists with preparation of financial statements, balance sheets, and cash flows as necessary

  • Abides by all safety procedures and practices applicable to location and position; participates in appropriate safety training; demonstrates commitment to and support of EHSS principles and values; champions safety

  • Performs other duties assigned by management that generally fall within the expected scope of this position

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 5 years as a Cost and/or Plant Accountant

  • Prior experience with chemical and related industries

  • Expertise in activity-based costing for fixed and variable costs in relation to the overall direct cost of a line of products

  • Experience with creating spreadsheets and analyses

  • Excellent knowledge of ERP systems and various financial programs

  • Experience with general ledger functions and month-end/year-end close process

  • Proven ability to operate under stressful situations

  • In-depth knowledge of business, Company policies, rules, regulations and processes and procedures, including parent company policies, processes and procedures

  • Excellent analytical skills and abilities; project management skills

  • Demonstrated leadership skills; ability to manage, motivate, coach and work with others to accomplish objectives

  • Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP; general knowledge of IFRS rules

  • Respect for confidentiality of information, laws and local ethics

  • Experience with companies required to follow SOX regulations; good knowledge of internal controls

  • Customer focus including the ability to speak diplomatically; problem solver

  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and follow through on assignments

  • Good computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite; ability to use database systems and other programs and applications used by this position and at Company

  • Fluent in English language including reading, writing and speaking; ability to read and write at a minimum of high school level; ability to clearly communicate to all levels in organization

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting

  • CPA highly desirable

  • Advanced degreed helpful
